Fire -Sitakunda Container Yard

* We have received news reports that a fire was ignited within the BM Container Depot at Sitakunda, near Chittagong, Bangladesh on 4 June 2022.

* It is reported that the fire spread extensively within the Depot, exacerbated by explosions of multiple containers stowed with chemicals including hydrogen peroxide and sulphur stored within the Depot.

* The fire was being fought by both the local fire service and the Bangladesh Army, drafted in to assist the fire-fighting efforts.

* At least 49 people are reported to have been killed in the incident and many others injured.

* It is possible that Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo in store at the Depot so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
